It’s my Birthday Week
October is my favourite month for so many reasons: the cold season is here, it’s officially sweater weather, the leaves turn red and yellow and that cozy season is in full swing. Plus it’s my birth month!
This always makes me look back and take stock of the year that was lived. What were the highlights, what I loved most and what I want to change moving forward? I love to see how much always has changed in a year. Some years feel short some long, but it’s often too easy to get tangled up in the everyday and not see how much is different compared to a year ago.
Here are my favourites from this past year:
Music. Hands down, the biggest favourite for me last year was music. I know, it really has nothing to do with knitting and most likely you are here because of the knitting. But it was a true circle back to my roots, my earlier passions and I love that music forces me to learn so many new things constantly. It feels brutal and keeps me honest but also makes me so very happy
It also shows in my designs, not the least in my Allikko Vest. The vest was designed for our folk music group Allikko, a 3 women group with two violins and percussions. Playing together, to friends and even a few public performances was all super exciting. Not to mention our first festival appearances! And I adore that little design too on its own!
Friendships. Friendships have been a big part of my year. Old ones and new ones too, and I have been so lucky to meet so many great people through the years. Spending time with people I love is a true gift.
Learning new things in my design work. Last year was a big intarsia year for me, and I’m still not done with that technique! Just wait and see! I have so many fun ideas to turn into new designs!
My biggest wish for the next year is to keep consistent with my running and (fingers crossed) injury free. And learn more music. I also hope that I can share my designs in more organised manner, setting a steady rhythm with the new ones and promote the existing ones well.
