The painting Helsinki Harbour by Ellen Thesleff has been one of my favorites for a long time. The delicate colors remind me of the crisp and early spring sun; that hazy light you don’t know if it will last after a long, dark winter.

Satama Shawl mimics the theme of the painting quite literally: the soft colors glow in the simple texture panels of garter stitch and brioche. You will have fun working single color parts alternating with two-color brioche and of course there are a few short rows included in the mix for perfect shape.

Satama Shawl is designed in collaboration with Wool Me Once Fibers.

MATERIALS
Yarn: 2 skeins of Merino Single by Wool Me Once Fibers. Approx. 740 yds (680 m) of fingering weight yarn, 370 yds (340 m) in each MC and CC. The sample shawl is knitted in colors Tyyni (MC, blue) and Satama (CC, coral).
Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needles, 32” (80 cm) long or longer. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Other: Stitch markers, tapestry needle and blocking aids.

SIZING
One Size
Measurements of the finished shawl: 72.5” (184 cm) wingspan and 22” (56 cm) deep at center spine.

GAUGE
20 stitches and 40 rows = 4” (10 cm) in garter stitch, after blocking.
