April Scarf
Springtime fun! We’ve had sunny days week after week, but now the weather is certainly taking a turn for the colder. We might even get a bit of snow over the weekend (not ready for that anymore!). But to ward off the cold, I’m happy to introduce you to my newest pattern release: April Scarf!
I’m so glad that the long-awaited release of the April Scarf is finally here! It’s the epitome of Spring knitting in my mind: it’s easy, small, with fun colours and of course some stripes! What more to we really need? Not much, if you ask me. April Scarf was begun with my eagerness to play with the orientation of classic stripes, resulting in a triangle-shaped scarf that offers a little something unexpected for your wardrobe. One half of the piece features striking vertical stripes, while the other side keeps things traditional with horizontal ones.
The construction is such a fun journey that begins at the tip of the center spine, and ends sideways on the left tip! You’ll work the first half from the bottom up, building those horizontal stripes row by row. From there, the direction shifts entirely as you pick up stitches along the center spine to work the second half sideways. This creates that beautiful even triangle, where the two sides meet at the centre spine.
To give the scarf an extra polished feel, every edge is finished with a sophisticated rounded double-knitted border. This part is worked entirely in one colour, yarn still held double for maximum impact. While the final round of stitches is quite a feat, the smooth tubular bind-off provides a professional, smooth quality that is well worth the effort.
For the yarn, I’ve used Aara Yarn Hellu, which is an absolute treat against the skin thanks to its blend of baby alpaca, cashmere, and silk. Each color is held double throughout the project to ensure the scarf is as soft as it is stylish. Whether you follow my lead with the blue and pink (Taival and Milo colourways) or dive into your own stash for a single strand of fingering weight yarn, I can’t wait to see your version take shape!
