Fresh hues for fresh needles!
This season, I’m leaning away from all the heavy charcoals, blacks and deep berry shades of winter. Even though with the return of the light, this would be the perfect time to knit all those black knits that you cannot see in the midst of winter… Yet, Instead, I’m looking toward colors that feel like a breath of fresh air. Here is how I’m matching my designs to the spring landscape this year:
1. Soft pastels and neutrals
Think buttery yellows, sage greens, and pale lilacs. These shades highlight the delicate textures in designs like the Tiny Pebbles Sweater. Using a light-coloured yarn makes those "pebble" bobbles catch the light beautifully. I’m thinking mixing new pastels for both colourwork and textured designs alike - how about a Lapponia Sweater with mint, yellow and pink? Or Usva Shawl in baby blue?
2. The air aesthetic
For a truly ethereal spring look, try knitting the Pehmis Sweater in a soft peach or mint. When you pair a light color with an airy mohair or silk blend, the garment practically glows.
3. Nature-Inspired greens
Spring is all about growth! Making this time of the year the perfect time to cast on the Fern Socks. I love seeing these in variegated greens or even a bold, mossy solid to celebrate the leaves returning to the trees. This time I’m also really leaning into a misty mint green with some gray in it! I would love to knit a pair of socks with that kind of colour right now.
4. High-contrast spring
If you aren't a "pastel person," you can still lean into spring with fresh colour choices. Try the Noël Scarf in a crisp white or a navy blue for a classic, nautical spring vibe that looks sharp against a denim jacket. Or maybe you’d want to knit the Milkshake Scarf with all bright combination?
