Blue Hour Socks

Months are turning ever so quickly and here we are, nearing the end of the summer already. Today I have another sort of new pattern to share with you: Blue Hour Socks. They were originally part of Laine Magazine but are now available as a single pattern too.

There’s a hush that settles over the world in the blue hour — a breath held between day and night. Shadows stretch long and soft, the sky deepens to indigo, and the first stars flicker awake, shy but certain. In that fleeting light, colours feel richer, details sharper, and everything seems touched with quiet magic.

The Blue Hour Socks are my way of bottling that moment. They’re simple and gentle, with a lace detail that hints at hidden light, like starlight threaded through fabric. Worked from the cuff down, they’re a soothing knit with just enough rhythm to keep your hands engaged and your thoughts wandering. Slip them on, and you carry a little piece of twilight with you, wherever you go.

The socks are worked from the cuff down, combining meditative knitting with a touch of elegance. A classic heel flap and gusset ensures a comfortable fit, while the lace pattern flows down the leg, catching the light just so. Whether you knit them in the cool blue tones of evening, or let your imagination wander to dusty pinks, mossy greens, or stormy greys, these socks are a soothing project with a beautiful finish.

The pattern is written for three sizes, with a recommended ease of 0–1” / 0–2.5 cm of negative ease, easily adjusted to suit your preference. Foot length is also fully adjustable. You’ll need approximately 340 (385, 420) yds / 310 (350, 385) m of fingering-weight yarn — I used Earth by Life in the Long Grass, a luxurious blend of 70% Merino wool, 20% yak, and 10% nylon in the colourway Blue Mountain. I can only say good things about this yarn! So far it has lasted a long time in this heavy-wearing household. And I can also say that this pair survived a trip to the washing machine (not the wool-cycle kind) without damage! Other lovely options would be for example Arwetta by Filcolana, Sock Yarn by Isager, or Mieli by Aara Yarn.

This pair was originally designed for and published in Laine Magazine, Spring 2025 edition. The beautiful patter photos are by Laine Publishing, and I love the painting studio vibes these pretty picture have! Makes me want to pick up my brush and canvas.

The Blue Hour Socks are now available in my shop and also on Ravelry. With code BLUE20 you will get 20% off on your purchase until the end of Monday, August 18th, 2025, (Helsinki time). Same code works over here and on Ravelry too!

Cast on your own pair and let your knitting time be bathed in that quiet, luminous light between day and night.
