Pattern release: Usva Shawl
Some projects feel like a quiet morning walk through fog—soft, grounding, and full of subtle shifts in light and texture. The Usva Shawl is just that: a meditative triangle shawl that unfolds gently on the needles, stitch by stitch and texture by texture. I simply adore it, when my knitting experience is smooth and blissful and this shawl was just that.

The shawl was originally designed for Laine Magazine’s Finnish Knits special volume. Usva truly celebrates the kind of knitting I return to time and time again—textures that soothe, shapes that wrap and comfort, and yarn that brings it all to life.
Worked on the bias, Usva combines three of my favourite stitch patterns—moss stitch, brioche, and garter stitch—into one harmonious whole. The textures shift gently from one to another, keeping your hands engaged while inviting your thoughts to wander.
For the sample, I used Laurelknits KiMo Sock in the shade Monday—a beautifully moody greyish pink that perfectly suits the calm atmosphere of the shawl. The yarn made the shawl even more special. The KiMo Sock base with Merino, Nylon and a hefty amount of Mohair is a dream to knit with and makes a long-lasting and warm layer. The yarn’s soft bounce and subtle sheen give the fabric beautiful movement and lovely drape.

Whether you’re curled up at home or wrapped against a chill on a breezy day, Usva is the kind of shawl you’ll reach for again and again.
