Aura Sweater

Have you ever been curious how it would feel like to knit a sunrise? I have - and I also feel like I already knitted it one. That’s why I’m so excited to release the Aura Sweater! It’s my love letter to the blurry, hazy loveliness that we call silk mohair. The ultimate fluff, halo and softness all in one. The fibre has been my recent obsession for a good reason and the Aura Sweater is the greatest example of it!

Aura Sweater is my dream layering piece: it’s generously sized, has simple and straightforward shaping and it’s knitted in Stockinette stitch. Why, you might ask? Well, mainly because silk mohair, in addition to all the wonderful qualities it has, does not really have a memory and only a little stretch. So simple and open stitch pattern like Stockinette stitch is usually a great choice (compared to for example cables or textured stitch patterns that usually do not look quite as even as on other fibres like merino wool).

The sweater is worked easily from the top down. The shaping is kept minimal but thoughtful, so that wearing this piece feels very natural. The sweater is started with the upper back, then the shoulders and front are shaped using short rows and clean neckline increases to create a deep V-neck. Once the sleeve depth is reached, the front and back are joined to work the lower body in the round. Finally, stitches are picked up around the armholes for the loose-fitting sleeves.

The real magic of Aura Sweater lies in its beautiful fade. The sunrise surprise! By blending three strands of lace-weight yarn together and transitioning them one strand at a time, you create a gentle colour fade that feels like watching a sunset on your needles. You can either choose to carefully plan your colour sequence before casting on or simply go with the flow and change strands when you feel it’s time.

Aura Sweater pattern is out now! With code AURA15 for a 15% discount all weekend long. The code works until the end of Monday, May 25th, 2025 (Helsinki time).
